About this screener — evidence, source, alternatives

Ten statements about noticing faint smells, tastes, sounds, sights and touch, scored 0–3 (total 0–30). Higher scores mean greater sensory sensitivity. A short form of the Sensory Perception Quotient; it describes sensory sensitivity and has no clinical cut-off.

Evidence · validated

In 671,606 adults aged 16–89 (Greenberg et al., 2018), mean SPQ-10 scores were 13.99 (SD 5.51) in men and 14.82 (5.74) in women without autism, versus 16.33 (6.27) and 17.10 (6.16) in men and women reporting an autism diagnosis (case–control Cohen’s d 0.38–0.39). There is no validated cut-off, so the total is reported without bands.
