About this screener — evidence, source, alternatives
Adapted from the child SCARED for adults, covering DSM-5 anxiety disorders including agoraphobia. 44 statements rated for now or the past 3 months give a total and four subscales. Useful for following anxious youth into adulthood with a comparable measure.
Evidence · validated
In 336 adults aged 18–27 assessed with the SCID (replicated in an independent sample of 158), the SCAARED showed four factors (somatic/panic/agoraphobia, generalized, separation and social anxiety), internal consistency of 0.86–0.97, and AUCs of 0.72–0.84 for the total and factor scores (Angulo et al., 2017). Validation so far is in young adults.
