About this screener — evidence, source, alternatives
A 10-item short form of the Q-CHAT, asking parents about joint attention, pointing, pretend play, eye contact, and comforting others. Each item has five graded answers rather than yes/no, which captures how often a behaviour occurs.
Evidence · validated
At a cut-off of >3, Allison et al. (2012) reported sensitivity 0.91 and specificity 0.89 comparing diagnosed children with controls. Performance in unselected community screening is lower; positive screens need clinical follow-up.
