About this screener — evidence, source, what inspired it
Covers the perinatal problems that routine depression scales can miss: anxiety and panic, unwanted intrusive thoughts about the baby (separating common, unwanted thoughts from any wish to act on them), sleeplessness beyond what the baby explains, difficulty bonding, and the red flags of postpartum psychosis, alongside low mood, loss of enjoyment, and thoughts of self-harm. The EPDS is the best-known perinatal screen, but its publisher does not permit electronic embedding. The PHQ-9 and GAD-7 are validated in pregnancy and after birth and are free to use; consider them alongside or instead of this original, which is not validated.
Evidence · unvalidated
This is an OpenScreener original instrument. Its thresholds are provisional, set by expert judgement rather than population norms, and have not yet been validated. Treat results as a structured record of concerns, not a score with known sensitivity or specificity.
