About this screener — evidence, source, what inspired it

Asks how hard everyday motor tasks are for the child compared with peers, across ball skills, fine motor/handwriting, and general coordination, plus whether difficulties affect daily life. DCD affects around 5% of children and is frequently missed or mistaken for laziness or clumsiness.

Evidence · unvalidated

This is an OpenScreener original instrument. Its thresholds are provisional, set by expert judgement rather than population norms, and have not yet been validated. Treat results as a structured record of concerns, not a score with known sensitivity or specificity.

Inspired by

  • Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire (DCDQ’07) · Wilson, Alberta Children’s Hospital
Parent comparison of the child’s motor performance with peers across movement-control, fine-motor, and general-coordination factors.
  • Movement ABC-2 Checklist · Pearson
    Teacher-rated everyday motor competence.
