About this screener — evidence, source, alternatives

Seven core anxiety symptoms rated from 0 to 3 over the last two weeks. Designed for generalized anxiety disorder, it also has good operating characteristics for panic disorder, social anxiety disorder and PTSD, and is widely used to track response to treatment.

Evidence · validated

In 965 US primary-care patients interviewed by mental-health professionals, a cut-point of 10 gave sensitivity 89% and specificity 82% for generalized anxiety disorder (Spitzer et al., 2006). Kroenke et al. (2007) found AUCs of 0.80–0.91 for GAD, panic, social anxiety and PTSD. Validated in adults; cut-points of 5, 10 and 15 mark mild, moderate and severe anxiety.
