About this screener — evidence, source

The two core DSM items for generalized anxiety disorder (nervousness and uncontrollable worry), taken from the GAD-7. Scores range from 0 to 6. Use it as a quick first pass in busy settings and follow positive screens with the full GAD-7.

Evidence · validated

In 965 US primary-care patients, both the GAD-7 and its two core items (GAD-2) performed well as screens for GAD, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder and PTSD, with AUCs of 0.80–0.91 (Kroenke et al., 2007). The manual recommends a screening cut-point of 3 or more.
