About this screener — evidence, source, alternatives

A modern measure of autistic traits developed in the general population. Its six 7-item subscales cover social interactions, communication, social camouflage (masking), cognitive (in)flexibility, self-regulatory (repetitive) behaviours and sensory sensitivity. It describes a trait profile rather than giving a screening cut-off.

Evidence · validated

In general-population samples (Study 1 n = 1,119; Study 2 n = 1,068) the six-factor structure was confirmed, total-scale reliability was α = .95 with subscales α > .81, convergent validity with the AQ and BAPQ was r ≥ .79, and the CATI classified self-reported autism slightly better than the AQ or BAPQ (Youden’s index .62 vs .56–.59). The developers do not provide a clinical cut-off, so the total is reported without bands.
