About this screener — evidence, source, alternatives
Fifty statements covering five areas — social skill, attention switching, attention to detail, communication and imagination — each scored 1 point when answered in the autistic direction. Designed for adults of average or higher intelligence; it measures autistic traits and is not diagnostic on its own.
Evidence · validated
In the development study, 79.3% of adults with Asperger syndrome/high-functioning autism scored 32 or more versus 2% of controls (Baron-Cohen et al., 2001). In 100 consecutive referrals to an adult autism diagnostic clinic, a threshold of 26 gave sensitivity 0.95 and specificity 0.52 (PPV 0.84), correctly classifying 83% (Woodbury-Smith et al., 2005).
