About this screener — evidence, source, alternatives
A quick referral guide for parents to complete about a child aged 4–11 years with suspected autism who does not have a learning disability. The ten items were selected from the 50-item AQ-Child as the most discriminating.
Evidence · validated
At a cut-point of 6, sensitivity 0.95, specificity 0.97 and PPV 0.94 in 432 autistic children versus 940 controls (Allison et al., 2012). The form states it is the child version of the test recommended in NICE CG142. This was a case–control sample; accuracy in children referred because of concerns is likely to be lower.
